Discover the various filter criteria and categories you can use in active and static segments to help you effectively manage your contacts.

Please note that the below filter categories are the most commonly used, HubSpot offers various filter categories to explore from!

Segment memberships:

Use this filter to group contacts based on behavior, demographics, or engagement. You can use different filter properties such as if they are a member of this segment or not a member of this segment.


Form submissions:

Generate segments based on contacts submissions to a form. You can use different filter properties like if the contact has filled out this form or not filled out this form


Marketing emails:

Compile segments based on contact marketing email activity. You can use different filter properties such as if the contact has clicked on a link, has opened the email, has not opened the email or has not clicked.


Calls to action(CTAs):

Use to filter contacts based on CTAs that have or haven't been clicked. You can use different filter properties like if the contacts CTA activity is equal to, not equal to, or even if the CTA activity is known or is unknown.


Email subscriptions:

Use to filter contacts based on their email subscription status. You can use different filter properties such as if the contact has opted out of all email subscriptions or has opted out of a specific email subscription.


Using Filter Criteria + Categories

  • Segment memberships: Use to combine various segments together.

Duplicate contact records will be removed from the finalized segment.

  • Form submissions: Use to compile specific form submissions into a segment for email communications regarding the specific event / form. 
  • Marketing emails: Use to compile specific marketing email activity. This criteria can help narrow down audiences or segment audiences if further action should be taken with email marketing communications. 
  • Email subscriptions: Use to create a segment based on email subscriptions. Email subscriptions can help with segmented email marketing communications. 
  •  Calls to action(CTAs): Use to create a segment based on CTA action. This criteria can help with narrowing down the audience activity.
