What is a Segment?

A Segment in HubSpot is a tool used to group contacts, companies, or deals based on specific criteria. Segments are essential for segmentation, allowing you to organize your CRM data and target specific audiences for marketing, sales, and reporting purposes.

Active Segments:

An active segment is dynamic and updates automatically as contacts meet or no longer meet the criteria you set.

Use cases:

    • Ongoing segmentation (e.g., leads who downloaded a specific eBook).
    • Continuously updating groups for workflows, nurturing, or reporting.

Example:

    • A segment of active agents.

Static Segments:

A static segment is a fixed group of contacts that does not change once created. The contacts in the segment remain the same unless you manually add or remove them.

Use cases:

    • Capturing a snapshot of contacts at a specific moment (e.g., event registrants).
    • Sending one-off emails or campaigns to a specific group.

Example:

    • A segment of attendees for a webinar held last month.
